December 10, 2009 - A Special Day on the Ice

Grade 5 students from Thorncliffe Park. P.S. were treated to a morning of curling fun and instruction
thanks to their mentor and organizer of this visit, Guy Hamel
and his trusty corps of L.C.C. members who volunteered to assist with the program.
It certainly proved to be an enjoyable experience for all and the snacks at the end were a nice treat.

A Very Special Fellow

Saturday, December 5, 2009 was the
97th birthday of our esteemed member
Lorne West.

Lorne curls in the Daytime Men section at L.C.C. and regularly attends. On the few occasions that he does not curl, when one of us says that we missed him on the ice, he is known to say, "I'm sure glad to be missed. When you aren't, you are in serious trouble."

Lorne has curled since he was very, very young. In the past few years, Lorne has taken to the stick delivery method and he is still drawing the house with a delicate touch and throwing in the occasional, double-raise, take-out for variety. We all love to have him on our sheet, whether as a member of our team or on the opposition.

Lorne is a tall, strong, yet gentle person and a grand fellow. We admire him greatly and cherish his presence.

Our 97 year-old recently spent some time with our 7 year-olds and others, giving them a few tips about curling and tips about life. Below, are photos of Lorne and our Little Rock-ers and their coaches.

The Stick Curling Clinic on October 24, 2009, showed as that there is a vaible alternative to keep us curling in the years ahead.

The OCA provided great instruction and our Leaside level one instructors were there to support our stick users.
